Despite the limitations dealt by the COVID-19 pandemic, MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) successfully held its very first LifeWeek Online from September 1 to 7. For the whole week, New Lifers were encouraged to participate in activities planned by the school’s Student Government (SG). Activities included interactive games played during the event’s opening ceremony, creative social media contests, and daily dress ups according to a given theme.
On September 1, the first day of Life Week, SG officers hosted an online opening ceremony for each Junior High School department. In addition to the hosting of virtual games, the upcoming activities and contests were explained to the students. Some of the contests included Best Caption, a Cooking/Baking Contest, Recreating Childhood Photos, and an OPM Contest. Moreover, students and teachers were given the opportunity to dress up according to the theme of the day.
Having just begun a new school year online, many students, teachers, and parents wondered whether or not MGC’s iconic Life Week would still push through. While several had their doubts, the SG however, managed to pull off the purpose of Life Week, which was to bond with fellow New Lifers and to boast in the school spirit.
Wesley Jonn C. Co, SG’s Business Manager, stated that the difficulties in planning Life Week Online were the execution of the ideas in the online setup and the challenge “to connect with others” while in this new normal. He added that while planning for LifeWeek Online, the SG were striving to think of activities to keep it “interactive” and enjoyable. “Although it was definitely a different experience compared to what we were familiar with, we’re still happy to hold our yearly event, Life Week, for the student body,” concluded Co. This year’s LifeWeek is a momentous event not only for the students but for the school as well. It really serves as a testament to the possibilities that can be achieved even with the barrier of online classes.
