All I Want For Christmas Is Food

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Gifts are starting to fill up the space underneath your Christmas tree, the nighttime breeze is starting to get colder, and dinners are becoming more like fiestas. The diet you’ve been keeping throughout the quarantine phase has just been tossed out the window. Worried you’ll gain a few pounds during this Christmas season? Here are 5 ways to keep yourself fit, but at the same time, still being able to taste and savour every food item on the table!

1. Set a new realistic workout plan.

Christmas is here, and your schedule will most probably be busy with celebrations. Long workouts are not ideal during this time since we don’t usually have much time on our hands. To replace those long workouts, HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) are workouts that could help you get your regular exercise done in a shorter amount of time. They may be short, but definitely intense!

2. Stay active and walk around your house!

Just because the break is right around the corner doesn’t mean we can just lay down on our beds the whole day. If you want to keep yourself in shape, staying active and walking around the house is key. Pigging out on your meals, then lying down on your bed or couch for the whole day will really aid in the derailment of your healthy eating diet.

3. Use a smaller plate during your meals.

This tip touches more on the psychological side than the practical side. Using a smaller plate gives you less space to add more food and will trick your brain. This way, you’ll be eating less but still feeling full after your meal.

4. Never forget your fruits and veggies too!

Fruits and vegetables are not usually everyone’s favorite dishes, but those are important factors in having a healthy diet. Eating different vegetables helps decrease your blood cholesterol levels and lowers the risk of catching heart diseases. It also provides a feeling of fullness with less calorie intake. On the other hand, fruits are rich in fiber. It aids in speeding up the passage of food in your digestive tract. This is very important, especially if your goal is to keep a healthy weight and lifestyle.

5. Drink your water.

Keeping yourself hydrated plays a crucial role in staying fit. Drinking water decreases one’s calorie intake since it stimulates heat production in the body. The body needs to release energy in order to heat up the liquid to your body temperature. The more energy that gets released, the faster your metabolism runs. Drinking water before meals also reduces your appetite.

Despite health playing a significant role in our lives now, we should also loosen up a little and enjoy the Christmas season with our families, loved ones, and most importantly, God. It’s okay to eat up a little more to make up for a year’s worth of stress. Don’t be too hard on yourself, especially not on “The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!”
