Back-to-Battle: MGCNLCA’s Volleyball Team Bags Bronze in First In-Person Competition

“We can only do better from here on out,” shared Erin Kimberly Co, a member of MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA)’s volleyball team.

The 12-person female delegation placed 2nd-runner up in the Women’s 20U division in the SVN competition that was held in Pace Academy from July 16 to July 24, 2022, after two years of online training. The other teams—who participated in the same division—are the SVN Club Team, Philippine Chen Kuang High School, and Nuestra Señora De Guia Academy.

“To think we didn’t train before the start of the tournament, [yet] we performed pretty well,” expressed Zion student Co as she gushed over participating in more face-to-face competitions. “It was a core memory,” she added.

Conducted over the course of two weeks, the tournament was held in a round-robin set-up, where each team went head-to-head. Their number of winnings determined their placement and rankings.

MGCNLCA faced off against Nuestra Señora De Guia Academy for the bronze title, pulling off a three-set, clean sweep win over Nuestra, and earning third place overall.

The SVN Club Team defeated Philippine Chen Kuang High School and garnered gold.

“Do your part,” said living legend and MGCNL coach Thelma Rojas as she encouraged the girls before the start of the game.

Led by Sydney Jamina See, the team consisted of Erin Kimberly Co, Aisha Lauren Reyes, Sofia Caylen Cordova, Julia Rodriguez, Peach Oribelle Diño, Annika Kaitlynn Chong, Kate Cua, Petrice Elizah Lim, and Andrea Louise Reyes. They were joined by alumna Kate Abigail Hao Lin and guest player Hershey Joy Cadiz.
