Back to School!: MGCNLCA to Go Face to Face Next School Year

The wait is finally over.

A last, MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) will reopen its gates to all students and resume in-person classes for the school year 2022 to 2023. This will commence after the senior high school department was given the go signal to have face-to-face classes for its students for the fourth quarter of the current school year, starting on March 23, 2022.

This was announced during the Parents’ Town Hall meeting held virtually last February 26, 2022.

Dr. Anna Ong-Lim, the school physician and member of the Department of Health (DOH) Technical Advisory Group, started the assembly by providing the parents with an update on the current state of the Philippines. With children placed at the highest risk of sickness and complications, Ong-Lim strongly urged parents to have their children vaccinated, highlighting the intensified dangers of the Omicron Variant in terms of transmissibility, risk of reinfection, and vulnerability of unvaccinated children to severe illnesses. Assuring that the vaccines for minors will not affect the inoculated DNA, Ong-Lim stressed that the benefits of additional protection through inoculation substantially overshadows the minor disadvantages.

Ong-Lim also encouraged parents to have their children vaccinated not only for their health but also for their growth and mobility. “What we want to be able to address is way beyond health but now encompassing the development of kids. We want to be able to address the significant gap in learning that the pandemic brought about,” Ong-Lim voiced.

The school principal, Mrs. Helen Villanueva, took it from there and excitedly announced to the MGCNLCA community the long-awaited news regarding the resumption of in-person classes for the next school year. Villanueva assured that the school would strictly adhere to government regulations and safety guidelines. Thus, there will be restrictions such as limited school hours, no in-school meals, no gatherings, no events, no flag ceremonies, no in-school extracurricular activities and varsities, and no parking for parents.

Safety and Security department head Nicky Cawaon then explained the thorough arrangements prepared by the school to ensure the safety of the students and to adhere to safety protocols of government institutions. Cawaon introduced the renovations, new fixtures, reparations, and additions installed. Considering social distancing and the students’ adjustments, MGCNLCA has introduced redevelopments, including new hands-free facilities, signs, posters with reminders, distanced classroom seatings, vents, and others.

Villanueva also gave a comprehensive and brief outline of implementing the modality, class, time, number of students, and sections per grade level. She clarified that the plan is not yet final and may still be adjusted, depending on the country’s COVID-19 situation. The principal also discussed the tuition fee for the school year 2022-2023, which is even lower than the pre-pandemic tuition fees.

After the discussion, a question and answer portion was held through Pigeon Hole to address parents’ additional queries. A survey will also be sent to parents regarding their preferred mode of learning for their children.
