“When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.” (Proverbs 4:12, New International Version)
With the pandemic still on a rampage, MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) held its second virtual graduation ceremony last July 31 for the school’s 17th batch of graduates. The theme “Half-paced Transcendence” was specifically chosen by the graduating batch to embody class Zion S.Y. 2020-2021.
“The word transcendence actually refers to the aspect of God’s nature and power, which is holy, independent of the material universe,” explained Mrs. Helen K. Villanueva, MGCNLCA’s principal, in her speech to the graduates.
Thirty-eight out of thirty-nine students attended an in-person graduation ceremony and photoshoot from July 5-8. The graduates individually marched, had their photos taken, and received their respective academic awards with a message from their teachers. The school scheduled five to eleven students per day, with each one submitting a health survey form. The teachers and production crew practiced social distancing and wore masks and face shields as a necessary precaution.
Three weeks later, Batch 17, along with their parents and teachers, gathered on Zoom for a send-off party and to watch the Youtube premiere of the virtual graduation. Videos were shown of each graduate marching and having their moment on the red carpet.
School Board of Trustees Treasurer Mr. Kenrick V. Chua delivered the opening message, expressing his delight at how far Batch 17 has come. Rev. Harg Timothy G. Ang further elaborated on the theme in his keynote address.
Videos of each graduate going up the stage to receive his or her diploma followed, with their awards received and the colleges they are going to flashed on the screen behind them.
Graduates John Adrian S. Ramos, Ayahnna Rykah B. Dayu, and Zachary L. Ngo shared their experiences in the Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), and the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strands, respectively.
Ms. Alma Mater Kate Abigail J. Hao Lin gave a thanksgiving message, after which the different awards were given out. Clarisse Kimberli V. Dy ended up as the top student of Batch 17, while the Senior Ichthus Award (Outstanding Student) was given to Mika Adin L. Qua.
Mr. James Y. Tioco, Mr. Jimmy T. Yaokasin, MGCNLCA Board of Trustees Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, along with Ms. Gloria Wei, then shared congratulatory messages. This was followed by Batch 17’s Graduation Song: “High Hopes'' by Panic! At The Disco.
The session ended with messages from various MGCNLCA teachers, a send-off speech from the principal, and the teachers’ annual rendition of the Irish Blessing for the graduates.
The virtual graduation video can still be viewed on the MGCNLCA Communications Youtube Channel.
