Batch Zion Launches the First-Ever Alumpics

Alumni, students, and teachers were all brought to reconnect, reunite, and reminisce in the first annual MGCNL Alumpics, held last April 23 to 27, for a week full of fun and sports.

Organized by the students of Zion ABM and HUMSS, the first-ever Alumpics featured fun healthy competition between students, teachers and alumni. The week-long event featured men’s basketball, mixed badminton, and mixed volleyball competitions, while also showcasing flashy exhibition games, exciting raffle prizes, and most importantly, a trip to the good old days.

The first day included a short opening ceremony, with Mrs. Villanueva had officially opening the event, and was followed by friendly exhibition matches with players showing off their skills in their respective sports.

Despite the competitive atmosphere, the MGCNL Gym was generously filled with laughter and smiles all around, coming from the genuine enthusiasm and joy of the alumni and teachers.

On the final day of competition, the first annual Alumpics featured an intense basketball finals matchup, between a deep Team TJ and a hot-shooting Team Aaron, while the volleyball tournament finals was bannered by a powerful Team Teachers going up against a powerhouse Team 13.

Basketball

As the early minutes of the Finals progressed, Team TJ had already made a clear statement regarding their position for champions over Team Aaron, having a comfortable cushion as they kept Team Aaron at a deficit of, at least, ten points each quarter.

Team Aaron were able to nearly execute an insane comeback in the final minutes of playtime, however, Team TJ remained in control and stayed composed, forcing Team Aaron to succumb to Team TJ.

The exciting duel ended with Team TJ emerging victorious, with just a tight four-point margin, at 72-68.

Volleyball

Team Teachers pulled off a great comeback against Team 13, from losing the first set, to winning the next two in a row in the volleyball finals.

However, this goes without saying that the third match was a close one. Both teams played the best that they could until the very end.

It was the teachers' experience versus Team 13’s unwavering spirit, and it’s by their experience that they were able to bring home the win.

Badminton

Although it was an exciting three-set match between the teachers Ms. Kristel Uy and Mr. Jesurey Gico, and the alumni, Abbie Lim and Kenn Ng, the podium featured teachers double who were able to smash the competition and take the crown of the tournament. The alumni double took the first set, however, the teachers took the next two sets, with the final set ending with scores 12-15.
