Having a strong faith in God is all the more critical amid all the controversial societal issues facing the world today. This, in a nutshell, was the message of retired MGC New Life teacher Danny Ching in the special joint cell group session of Junior High School students last September 30, 2020. The talk was entitled “Christianity in the Midst of Politics: Power, Persecution, and Purpose.”
Among the controversial issues discussed in the joint Zoom session were the cancel culture, the liberals and the conservatives, the Black Lives Matter Movement, feminism, and abortion.
Mr. Ching started his talk by explaining to students the political terms “liberal” and “conservative,” or rather, the “left” and the “right,” respectively, and what each side stands for. He then expounded on cancel culture as the popularized practice of removing support from public figures who speak or do things that are considered disagreeable.
The former teacher also discussed feminism as the advocacy for equality between men and women, but which has become an anti-male movement with parts of the feminist community exercising toxic ideologies and excessive superiority over the male sex.
On the Black Lives Matter Movement, Mr. Ching explains that it champions racial equality but has been misinterpreted as advocacy for only the Black community’s rights. He also expressed pro-abortion individuals as simply people who are unable to face the consequences of their actions.
Mr. Ching reiterated to the students the importance of carefully assessing facts to avoid the further spread of misinformation and misjudgment, as these controversial issues, as well as fake news and fringe groups, are part of Satan’s work of creating havoc in the world today.
He concluded his speech by encouraging the students to have a secure faith in God and bring people to Him by responding to others with faith, love, and hope. He reminded his audience that Christians are not called to win but to obey and give glory to the Lord.
Mr. Ching previously taught World History, Economics, Social Studies, and Computer in MGC New Life Christian Academy.
