JS Prom 2022: Standing the Test of Time

After three long years, prom is back! This school year, the Junior-Senior Promenade of Grades 10 and 11 pushed through with only a month of preparation. The event was held at the school’s gym last May 20, 2022, with the theme “Standing the Test of Time.”

Looking dashing and dapper in all their finery, students walked in with their dates and escorts during the processional. In his welcoming remarks, Grade 10 level coordinator Mr. Dasig Dadap explained how the theme was a testament to God’s love and faithfulness, along with the students’ perseverance, in the midst of the challenges brought about by the pandemic.

Guest speaker and MGCNLCA alumna Ms. Maegan Elise Go then shared her experience and discussed how time and circumstance may affect us and bring changes to our lives.

Afterward, Student Government (SG) adviser Mr. Dexter Ngo led the turnover ceremony of the keys of responsibility between the outgoing SG President, Trei Ngo, and the incoming SG president, Gianna Asuncion. This was followed by a candle lighting ceremony between the Juniors and the Seniors.

The highlight of the night was the awards. Marty Jacob Siao and Megan Cajucom-Uy of Class Patmos were chosen Mr. and Ms. Junior, while Mr. and Ms. Senior were awarded to Rickson Caleb Tan and Grace Denise Gaw of Class Olive. Olive’s Erin Kimberly Co was chosen Ms. Alma Mater, while Gian Lucas Tan of Patmos and Beatrice Calee Lim of Olive were awarded King and Queen of the night.

Queen of the Night Beatrice Calee Lim exclaimed, “Prom was definitely a special night because we were able to catch up, play, and take lots of photos together!”

Bianca Denise Ong from Patmos and Class Olive’s Flowers and Fedoras also gave special performances during the event. After dinner, the teachers prepared some games such as “Name That Song” and “Charades.” Raffle prizes were also given.

“Being able to attend prom face-to-face was something most of us deemed impossible in the beginning and even towards the middle of the school year. Now that it actually took place, it felt like a dream. I'm very thankful for everyone in school who helped in making it all possible,” said Bianca Ong.

“Back in August, I genuinely didn't expect much from this school year. I thought that we'd continue with online school for at least one more school year before we'd even consider the idea of going back to face-to-face classes. But going to school in person this whole 4th quarter and having our junior-senior promenade and turnover ceremony live reminded me to never underestimate the power of God to make things happen. I'm thankful beyond words for all the memories I was able to make during prom night, and I'm excited for what's in store next school year," remarked outgoing SG President Trei Sebastian Ngo.

Mrs. Raquiel Pinlac, Junior High School B Supervisor, expressed, “Seeing the students all glammed up with broad smiles behind their masks which are made visible by the twinkle in their eyes, hearing them giggling and just being happy to be together after two years of seeing each other only on screen, I could not help but be emotional and shed a few tears. Thank God for His wisdom and guidance, we took the risk, but it was all worth it.”
