Lifeweek: Press Start—S.Y. 2023-2024 Begins With a Bang

New Lifers pressed the start of a brand new school year with the Student Government’s (SG) first event—Lifeweek: Press Start. Held from August 22 to 24, the three-day event was full of school spirit as students and teachers alike joined in the fun.

Tuesday dawned with students and teachers dressed in their childhood outfits to recreate an old photo of themselves. The opening ceremony allowed everyone to display their creative attires and awakened everyone to a thrilling week ahead with icebreaker games of Tug of War and Pepsi 7-Up.

That afternoon, the first ever SG Nerf War took place in the gym, where students Raphael Bautista, Carlos Gubat, Enzo Sy, Dominic Wong, Adrian Wong, and Xander Ty proved their mettle and emerged victorious.

The next day, celebrities ranging from Dwayne Johnson to Barbie and Ken, even meme-worthy local celebrity Daniella Mondragon, roamed the MGCNL halls as New Lifers dressed up as their favorite personalities. Teams also entered a video game-themed escape room, with only one group escaping undefeated at 7 minutes and 50 seconds: the duo of Eliana Oleta and Regina Lim from Grade 9.

The much-awaited return of the iconic dodgeball was held on Thursday. Students wore sporty outfits, ready to participate in the active games. In the end, the team of Annika Tan, Jason Gacias, Nigel Ang, Tyrone So, Samuel Wang, Minjoo Kim, Miles Co, Ashley Chua, Vaughn Cawaon, Sophia Pinsotes, and Nathan Hao won the ultimate dodgeball tournament.

The event concluded with a closing ceremony on August 30. Ms. Janaye Villanueva, Ms. Bhrittany Go, Mr. Kenno Caballero, Adam Uy, Kailey Chua, Magnus Cabilangan, and the trio of Adrian Wong, Gabriel Gaw, and Jedidiah Chee Ah received special prizes for winning the annual best-dressed competition while Joshua Tan of Patmos was also awarded for being the first one to complete the Bingo bucket list.
