"Creativity is for everyone, not just for creative people."
With the intent to spark creativity in MGC New Life Christian Academy's (MGCNLCA) Senior High School (SHS) students, Ateneo Professor Aaron A. Palileo is back with his five-day bi-weekly Creative Ideation Camp in August 2021.
Palileo, also known as Prof. A, focused on the first two steps of the creative process: inspiration finding and ideating. He upskilled SHS students to suitably construct objectives and envision ideas that differ, deliver, and delight. Exercises, activities, and tasks were also assigned individually and as a group as a form of application. The students used The Creativity Handbook, written by Palileo and Learnovate, the learning management system site that the attendees used to hand in their outputs.
On the first day, Prof. A introduced the concept of creativity and discussed the "Three Ps of Creativity." The camp was interactive due to the creative exercises such as show-and-tell, the nine dots puzzle, and drawing each other's faces.
The second day was about crafting firm objectives by changing the context. Students had to think of other contexts to widen their chosen creative fields. The third session had Palileo talk about making quality objectives from others’ negative thoughts on a particular field. He shared that generating more insights from different people would enable further exploration of the field.
On the fourth day, the camp focused on ideating ways to make the objectives work. Palileo trained the students on several methods of ideating to encourage them to create various insights. During the last day of the camp, students, by groups, were asked to create a final concept and compile all their submissions. These submissions were required and recorded for a future culminating activity. Students learned great techniques that may benefit future creative or research projects through this Creative Ideation Camp.
MGCNLCA plans on using Palileo's creative camp as an avenue for incoming Grade 11 students to work together as they prepare for their business simulation, culminating activity, or capstone research in their final year of senior high school.
