February marked the start of a busy season ahead as the school’s MUN varsity participated and garnered awards in the 3rd Xavier Model United Nations held from February 12 to 13. The varsity’s veteran delegates dominated the World Economic Forum, with Austin Bradley Cu winning Best Delegate as Russian President Vladimir Putin. MUN seniors Louie Matheson Wong (as American President Joe Biden) and James Ang (as Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong) also received Best Position Paper and Verbal Commendation, respectively. Steffi Nadine Chu also won an Honorable Mention as Swedish Activist Greta Thunberg in the same committee, with newcomer Maxine Ryan Chan receiving the same award in the United Nations General Assembly as the delegate of Greece. Erin Kimberly Co also participated in the conference as the Rapporteur of the United Nations Security Council.
After a short break, the school’s delegates went back to the grind as a smaller group participated in the first Assumption College Model United Nations Conference held from March 4 to 6. The varsity’s Secretary-General Francine Dominique Ty was awarded Best Delegate as viral clothing company Shein in the Fashion Forum, with Maxine Ryan Chan getting her second Honorable Mention as the Brazilian Delegate in the United Nations Human Rights Council. To finish off, the MGCNLCA Delegation, consisting of Ty and Chan alongside novice delegates Amanda Dana Chiong, Justine Faith Gaw, Aisha Lauren Reyes, Alexa Rae Tan, and Maxine Joyce Yap, won Outstanding Small Delegation of the conference.
