MGCNLCA's Debate Varsity are Grand Finalists in the Novice Category of the 10th National Asians High

In their first-ever appearance in a debate conference finals, MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA)'s varsity debaters Franxine Uel Cawaon, Grace Denise Gaw, and Jasmin Grace Ang became grand finalists in the novice category during the 10th National Asians High School Debating Championship last August 29, Sunday via Discord.

MGCNLCA Team A, composed of Cawaon, Gaw, and Ang, took the affirmative side as they debated on the motion that this house, as ASEAN, would abandon the South China Sea Code of Conduct Negotiations. Despite the loss, the debaters admitted they had a fun time, as the event presented an opportunity for the debate finalists to speak and build arguments. According to Cawaon, without the judges' comments, they would not have moved on to the next round.

During the semifinals, Team A went against MGCNLCA Team B, which was composed of Caitlin Danielle Gaw, Andre Gerard Aw, and Kevin Baritua. Gaw, Aw, and Baritua finished as semifinalists in the novice category. Team B debater Caitlin Gaw also won best overall novice speaker in the tournament.

The debate championship was hosted by the La Salle Debate Society, using the Asian Parliamentary format. It was held over the course of four days, August 21st, 22nd, 28th, and 29th, with the closing ceremony and awarding taking place on the final day of the championship.
