MGCNLCA Volleyball Team outlast Brent Lions in Brent’s Season 1 Showdown Tournament

MGCNLCA’s high school volleyball team made a clean sweep of Brent’s Season One Championship Showdown, earning the Champion title last October 22, in Brent’s home court in Brent International School in Biñan, Laguna.

As for the other three participating teams, Notre Dame of Trece Martires claimed second place as Brent International School and Beacon Academy earned third and last, respectively.

The tournament began with a round-robin of all four teams playing against each other last October 21 at Brent International School Manila.

During the round-robin, none of the three teams participating were able to best MGCNLCA’s high school team.

With no losses the previous day, the team entered the semi-finals on October 22 expecting a favorable outcome from the short tournament.

Being the top seed of the showdown, MGCNLCA was paired with the Brent Lions for their first game in the semi-finals which was quickly won despite Brent’s efforts on their own turf and multiple questionable calls from the referees.

With no losses throughout the two-day tournament, MGCNLCA continued to the fight for first place against Notre Dame.

The team easily earned the first set as the players showed great teamwork and communication.

With no intention of losing, the players made sure to continue their performance, securing the gold medal.

Since the tournament took place at the same time as the Smart Spike Tournament, the team viewed the Brent Tournament as practice and polishing in preparation for Smart’s semi-finals and finals. However, the team certainly preferred winning the brief Brent showdown.

“The showdown was a really good experience and also a great opportunity for us to practice for more serious tournaments like Smart,” said team captain Peach Diño.

MGCNLCA’s volleyball team greatly appreciateed Brent’s invitation to the tournament and looks forward to future Brent Showdowns.
