The 12U team of MGCNLCA’s volleyball varsity chalked up a bronze in the Palarong Pambansa Taguig Pateros Division Meet last March 18 in the Upper Bicutan Elementary School, winning a medal in the first competition they competed in since joining the varsity.
“For our first tournament, we still did okay. Our scores were okay, and we were still able to receive. It wasn’t 25-0.” commented Anya Chong.
Many players noted that they felt nervous during the tournament, as it was their first, which contributed to why they were unable to play their best.
“We had a good return in the second game–an improvement from their first game. I could see na ang tapang talaga nila. Even though we lost that game, I’m very happy na all of our training is not sayang,” said head coach Thelma Rojas, as they had lost their second and final game 2-3 in sets.
To better prepare for their future tournaments, the team will focus on improving both their strength and skills through their assigned Physical Fitness Training (PFT) and more drills involving defense and ball handling.
Captained by Anya Chong (Grade 6), the lineup of the tournament consisted of the following players: Chanelle Yap (Grade 1), Danellie Yeung (Grade 2), Ariana Co (Grade 3), Lia Hui (Grade 6), Mikaela Mancilla (Grade 6), Kylie Pesengco (Grade 6), and Gianna Tan (Grade 6).
The fruit of the varsity’s labor came to them as a bronze medal, something that the girls were happy to receive. To God be all the glory!
