More Than Just H2O

Exercising regularly, eating healthy, and sleeping well are all important elements if you want to be as healthy as you can be. However, without drinking enough water, your body may experience more damage than growth and repair since it can affect one’s performance throughout the day. But why exactly do we need to drink water? What are the benefits of drinking water every day to our bodies? These are just some of the questions we’ll be answering as we go through the article.

First of all, we need to understand that water makes up around 60% of our body weight so all our organs need water in order to function well. In fact, water helps boost your energy levels, decrease the chance of experiencing dizziness and muscle cramps, and helps keep you more focused during the day. Aside from that, water plays an important role in one's digestion to flush out the toxins in the body, and is a wonderful remedy for skin acne, dryness, and wrinkles.

When it comes to exercising, make sure you don’t forget to drink water before, during, and after your workout. According to a 2012 study, this has a huge impact on muscle and heart rate recovery. They noticed that the people who drank water after working out, recovered more quickly than those who drank nothing. When talking about fitness, being dehydrated is something that one should definitely avoid because of all its possible effects. It could cause the person’s body to feel weaker, resulting in muscle cramps, high blood pressure, and the inability to regulate their body temperature.

Knowing all these, what can you do to avoid dehydration? Here are a few simple ways.

First, have a bottle of water by your side while you’re studying or working. This can serve as a reminder for you to take a short break and have a sip of water from time to time. Second, cut down your intake of drinks that are high in sugar and caffeine, and instead replace them with water! If you feel that drinking water is too “boring,” you might want to try adding a few slices of lemon, orange, cucumber, or mint leaves to give it a pop of flavor! And lastly, track how much water you drink in a day. By doing this, you’ll be able to see if you reached your goal, and how your mood and energy levels were affected.

Here’s a little challenge for you: go and drink a glass of water right now! Whether you’re an athlete or not, we all need to stay hydrated especially since we spend a lot of time sitting down and exposing our eyes to the screens. Although we are all still currently under quarantine, we can use this time to improve, build, strengthen, and grow instead of incorporating unhealthy lifestyle habits into our lives.
