New Lifers Win Big in International Competitions

MGCNLCA High School Students received a total of three awards during recent international competitions held in South Korea and Indonesia. Erin Kimberly Co and Steffi Nadine Chu both won the Outstanding Delegate award in the 10th Yale Model United Nations Korea 2022; Aidan Riley Kho bagged a Bronze medal in the 12th Asian Science and Math Olympiad for Primary and Secondary Schools (ASMOPSS 12) in Bali, Indonesia.

The 10th Yale Model United Nations Korea 2022 was held from November 25- 29, 2022, at the Seoul Olympic Parktel. During the closing ceremonies at the National Assembly of South Korea, Co of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Chu of the Commission of Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) both won Outstanding Delegate in their respective committees.

Chu expressed, “It felt surreal going back to face-to-face conferences... I forgot how much I missed having face-to-face MUN interactions as well as meeting new people in international MUNs.”

“As cliché as it sounds, the whole trip will always be a core memory I will hold near and dear until the end… It is because of this trip, I realized why I do MUN; taking every opportunity to become a better person in today's society to glorify God.” Co added.

Meanwhile, Kho was one of the fourteen emissaries sent by the official Philippine Team to the ASMOPSS 12 in Bali, Indonesia. Kho had earlier secured bronze and silver medals in the eliminations and national qualifying rounds, respectively, to qualify for the final round. His 2nd runner-up finish at the Theoretical (Individual) round for the Secondary Science category contributed to the eight medals brought home by Team Philippines – one gold, two silvers, and five bronze medals.

Kho remarked, “Some really cool experiences were being able to make friends from different countries during the competition… My teammates in the Philippines team were also fun to interact with, as well as our team leaders.”
