Ping, Pong! The MGC New Life Christian Academy table tennis team is finally back after almost a two-year hiatus.
The table tennis team resumes their training on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 to 6:30 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 12 pm.
The table tennis room remained unfazed over the two years it wasn’t occupied. Everything seemed the same as before, from the equipment to the players. Only this time, hope and excitement filled the room – a new beginning of what the future has in place for this team.
The arrival of Coach Ting Ledesma, a program director from Ateneo De Manila University, has contributed to that excitement and definitely made an impression on the members. Varsity member Vaughn Cawaon commented, “[I’m] kind of overwhelmed, but excited since we have a new coach so it would be a new experience for all of us.”
Being a former national champion, Coach Ting has an indispensable amount of knowledge and wisdom to pass on. It is his goal to see MGCNL players be the number one juniors in the future.
“It is my passion to teach the kids as I am also like them before,” shared Ting. “I’m here not only to let them play table tennis, but I want them to improve.”
With training coming back, competitions will start piling up as well. While there are no current leagues that the team has joined, the team seems excited and will use this time to hone their skills and regain their conditioning.
Though the team is not yet back to its old shape, team captain Caden Ching seems optimistic for the future. “[I am looking forward to] the competitions, playing against other people, being able to experience winning and losing, and of course to enjoy it.”
In-person training may have resumed, yet the team still applies COVID-19 safety measures and protocols. Alcohol is readily available, windows are constantly kept open, and face masks are still worn when the players are not doing strenuous activities.
