Reading to Know and Grow this English Week

In celebrating the beauty of the English language, MGC New Life Christian Academy’s (MGCNLCA) English Department held English Week with the theme “Read to know. Read to grow.” from February 20 to 22, 2023.

The three-day event commenced with an opening ceremony, led by the English Department Head, Mrs. Jannette Ramos, where she talked about the importance of reading and celebrating language.

After the ceremony, students joined various activities such as a Quiz Bee, Spelling Bee, Film Showing, an Afternoon of Poetry and Music (AMP), Book Cover Design, Escape Room, and Board Games from 1:30 to 4:00 PM.

The second day was kicked off with an insightful Q&A event featuring Former Vice President, Atty. Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo, in collaboration with the Student Government’s Wide Awake and the Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand. The talk covered the theme “Challenging the Youth to Participate in the Development of Philippine Society" with other topics such as the significance of education and women empowerment.

On the final day of the event, Junior High School students and teachers dressed up as their favorite book characters or authors. The Lower Primary and Early Years dressed up as their favorite characters on Monday, earlier that week.

The event ended with a closing ceremony and winners of the various activities were recognized and awarded with prizes ranging from cash to chips, as well as a live judging of food puns sent from the students to Ms. Rhenee Sy, the resident Home Economics teacher. The ceremony ended with a picture taking of students and teachers who came in costume.
