S.Y. 2021-2022 Coming to a Close: Math Comp Results Reveal MGCNLCA Students on Top

With the school year 2021 to 2022 coming to an end, MGC New Life Christian Academy’s (MGCNLCA) prided mathletes once again brought home wins from various mathematics competitions, a sketch of the academic proficiency MGCNLCA students have in mathematics.


In the 2022 Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad (PhiMO) held last April 9 to 10, MGCNLCA mathletes bagged 33 awards: seven golds, nine silvers, 16 bronzes, and one merit award. Theo Chan, Nathan Gohoc, Kate Marie Aquino, Austin Michael Tan, Laira Caylee Chunpeng, Nathan Gabriel Hao, and Annika Justine Lim claimed the gold. Meanwhile, Evander Mael Robert Lao, Keisha Elise Wang, Baron Daniel Ong, Anya Taylor Chong, Amanda Louise Go, Aaron Russel Kho, Annika Kaitlynn Chong, Kyle Aidan Chua, and Andre Gerard Aw secured silver awards. Bronze awardees include Yul Kwon, Julia Violette Lim, Alyssa Grace Ng, Raiden Kenzo Cabilangan, Maxine Gianna Chua, Mason Gavin Chua, Nathaniel John Sia, Eunice Mikayla Valdez, Krisha Anne Hernandez, Magnus Alexander Cabilangan, Jazelle Dionne Lim, Aidan Riley Kho, Carlo Gabriel Chua, Cara Elise Gohoc, Janelle Dominique Lim, and Jeslyn Kaydee Gonzaga, with Moira Ellyse Cordova receiving a merit award.


In the 2022 Purple Comet Math Meet held on April 13, the team of Kaiser Travis Chan, Zachary Thomas Sy, Evan Tyler Sy, Nathan Andrew Alviar, Annika Angeline Browne, and Maribeth Jullian Tiong placed first in the Middle School - Large School Category. Meanwhile, in the High School - Large School Category, the team of Rickson Caleb Tan, Elliot Xander Albano, Hans Dominic Gamboa, Kyle Aidan Chua, and Andre Gerard Aw took first place, with the team of Nathan Gabriel Hao, Annika Kaitlynn Chong, Annika Justine Lim, and Faith Caitlin Ng taking second place.


Meanwhile, New Lifers Theo Chan and Evan Sy garnered gold in the 2022 International Kangaroo Mathematics Competition held online last March 17, 2022. The following students got the silver, namely Jacob Chua, Yul Kwon, Nathan Gohoc, Evander Mael Robert Lao, Julia Violette Lim, Michiko Meredith Tiong, Kate Marie Aquino, Nathaniel Sia, Caitlyn Yu, Hope Keila Ng, Austin Tan, Faith Caitlin Ng, Nathan Andrew Alviar, Gianna Oreese Villacorta, Zachary Sy, Jairus Lee, Nathan Gabriel Hao, Andre Gerard Aw. Getting the bronze were Alyssa Grace Ng, Tyler Gavin Uy, Sachi Caitlyn Esteban, Eunice Mikayla Valdez, Amanda Louise Go, Lance Ngo, Aaron Kho, Aidan Riley Kho, Annika Justine Lim and Cara Elise Gohoc.


On February 24, 14 New Lifers received an award for the 2022 Pascal, Cayley, Fermat (PCF) Papers. Faith Caitlin Ng, Carlo Gabriel Chua, and Aidan Riley Kho ranked 44th in the Team international Honor Roll. Meanwhile, Faith Caitlin Ng, Andre Gerard Aw, and Elliot Xander Albano were ranked part of Group IV, Group II, and Group V’s International Honor Roll, respectively. The following students garnered Certificates of Distinction: Jairus Jacob Lee, Aaron Russel Kho, Faith Caitlin Ng, Magnus Alexander Cabilangan, Kailey Alyssa Chua, Krisha Anne Hernandez, Annika Kaitlynn Chong, Annika Justine Lim, Carlo Gabriel Chua, Nathan Gabriel Hao, Aidan Riley Kho, Andre Gerard Aw, Hans Dominic Gamboa, Elliot Xander Albano, and Kyle Aidan Chua.


Bringing international honor to MGCNLCA, Nathan Andrew Alviar, Nathan Gabriel Hao, and Hans Dominic Gamboa prevailed as final first-prize victors in the SINGA Global Finals 2022 last February 27. Silver awardees included Nathan Gohoc, Kate Marie Aquino, Maribeth Jullian Tiong, and Aaron Russel Kho. New Lifers who secured bronze were Marco Dylan Ho, Kailey Alyssa Chua, Annika Kaitlynn Chong, Carlo Gabriel Chua, and Andre Gerard Aw.


Finally, last January 21, Zachary Thomas Sy, Aaron Russel Kho, and Faith Caitlin Ng snatched gold in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 8 for grades 6 to 8. Kaiser Travis Chan, Annika Angeline Browne, Nathan Andrew Alviar, Evan Tyler Sy, Kailey Alyssa Chua, and Chloe Grace Ang claimed silver medals; Maribeth Jullian Tiong, Jairus Jacob Lee, and Austin Michael Tan garnered third prize.
