Throughout the first three quarters of S.Y. 2021-2022, MGC New Life Christian Academy’s students reeled-in awards from various Mathematics and Robotics competitions.
On February 19, Shawn Darren Chua received a special award in the 24th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) Qualifying Round after being recognized as a top contestant in the National Capital Region (NCR). Rickson Caleb Tan joined Chua in qualifying for the national stage of PMO, set to take place on March 18 to 19.
Last February 16, two MGCNLCA teams reached the podium in the recently concluded Tagisan ng Mathinik. Kate Marie Aquino, Annika Angeline Browne, Kaiser Travis Chan, Anya Taylor Chong, Maribeth Jullian Tiong, and Tyler Gavin Uy claimed first runner-up. Meanwhile, Hope Keila Ng, Nathaniel John Sia, Pierce Victor Takai, Austin Michael Tan, Eunice Mikayla Valdez, and Caitlyn Stephanie Yu sealed the spot for second-runner up.
On January 15, Maribeth Jullian Tiong bagged a silver in the 2022 Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad X (SEAMO X)—an international competition open to SEAMO 2022 awardees. Meanwhile, Nathan Gohoc, Nathan Gabriel Hao, Annika Justine Lim, and Elliot Xander Albano reaped bronze medals.
Last December 5, MGC New Life Christian Academy earned the “Top Performing School Award” in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Mathematical Olympiad (Big Bay Bei) 2021 Heat Round after receiving one of the highest medal counts. Theo Chan, Kingson Reyes, Tyler Gavin Uy, and Annika Kaitlynn Chong secured the first prize. Second prize winners include Kaiser Manly, Maxine Gianna Chua, Danry Seth Romualdez, Evander Mael Robert Lao, Mason Gavin Chua, Pierce Victor Takai, Annika Justine Lim, Carlo Gabriel Chua, Wesley Jonn Co, Jeslyn Kaydee Gonzaga, and Kristen Mikayla Chua. The following garnered third prize: Nixi Pan, Moira Ellyse Cordova, Jaenna Delos Reyes, Luka Kang, Kamille Natalie Yu, Brielle Dominique Ong, Joshua Samuel Chiu, Anya Taylor Chong, Marco Dylan Ho, Caitlyn Stephanie Yu, Hannah Isabelle Chiu, Jairus Jacob Lee, Aaron Russel Kho, Chloe Grace Ang, Janelle Dominique Lim, Aisha Lauren Reyes, TImothy Lance Tan, Annika Joan Lee, and Dominique Paulyne Pesengco.
On December 4, Elliot Xander Albano took home a gold in the International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) 2021. Kaiser Travis Chan, Maribeth Jullian Tiong, and Nathan Andrew Alviar snatched silver. Meanwhile, the following students were bronze awardees: Nathan Gohoc, Michiko Tiong, Kate Marie Aquino, Annika Angeline Browne, Evan Tyler Sy, Zachary Thomas Sy, Nathan Gabriel Hao, and Hans Dominic Gamboa. Honorable mentions include Caleb Zachary Tiu and Laira Caylee Chunpeng.
In the 2021 World Mathematics Team Championships (WMTC) last November 27, the following bagged gold in the individual round: Nathan Andrew Alviar, Kaiser Travis Chan, Laira Caylee Chunpeng, Maribeth Jullian Tiong, and Elliot Xander Albano. Silver awardees include Annika Angeline Browne, Anya Taylor Chong, Hans Dominic Gamboa, Nathan Gabriel Hao, and Faith Caitlin Ng. Annika Kaitlynn Chong and Annika Justine Lim brought home bronze medals.
Last November 6, Maribeth Jullian Tiong and Kaiser Travis Chan were gold awardees in the American Math Olympiad (AMO) 2021. Evander Mael Robert Lao, Nathan Gabriel Hao, and Annika Kaitlynn Chong claimed silver, while the following students won bronze awards: Theo Chan, Nathan Gohoc, Pierce Victor Takai, Tyler Gavin Uy, Marco Dylan Ho, Annika Angeline Browne, Austin Michael Tan, Jairus Jacob Lee, Lance Ngo, Nathan Andrew Alviar, Chloe Grace Ang, and Andre Gerard Aw.
From December 15 to January 20, members of the Robotics Varsity competed in the International Robot Olympiad (IRO) 2021, where Matthew Ryan Chong garnered silver in the Physical Computing challenges. Chong also received a bronze in the Robot in Movie challenge, along with Andrew Alexander Liu.
