Live LIFE to the fullest at the 1st LIFE Model United Nations Conference!
“A distant aspiration five years in the making, having it become a reality this year still feels unreal…” says MUN Secretary-General Steffi Nadine Chu.
After months of dedicated preparations, MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) held its first-ever LIFEMUN last April 29 to 30, with the theme “Upholding Diplomatic Relations Amidst the Fragile Balance of Peace and Conflict in a War-torn World.”
Driven by the success of prominent MUN conferences Xavier MUN (XMUN), De La Salle MUN (DLS-MUN), and Ateneo MUN (AMUN), the MGCNLCA Model United Nations (MUN) varsity team took the challenge of hosting its very first MUN conference with the help of the Core Secretariat, the MUN varsity, and Lifenews, marking the start of a new beginning in MGCNLCA history.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) were the three selected committees of LIFEMUN. Meanwhile, correspondents from five press agencies, namely Aster Press, Avian News, The Daily Badger, Capsicum Times, and The Burrow Post, made up the LIFEMUN Press Corps.
The first day of LIFEMUN kicked off with opening remarks by Mrs. Helen Villanueva, the school principal. Mr. Ariz Severino Convalecer, the Director of the Financial Planning Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs, then followed with an insightful and engaging talk on diplomacy and being an MUN delegate.
The two-day conference brought together delegates and correspondents as they engaged in seven committee sessions packed with discussions, eagerness, excitement, crises, and bonding. The 1st LIFEMUN ended with a closing ceremony awarding exemplary delegates and correspondents.
With this year’s conference signaling the start of an annual MGCNLCA MUN conference, MUN Secretary-General Chu said to expect more in the following years. ”For future plans and exciting things, the next set of the core secretariat will be planning for the 2nd LIFEMUN next year! We hope to take LIFEMUN to new uncharted territory and to grow beyond the path the 1st LIFEMUN has taken.”, she excitedly remarked.
Students from MGCNLCA, Assumption College, Xavier School San Juan (XSSJ), Colegio San Agustin (CSA), Paref Woodrose, Golden Faith Academy (GFA), British School Manila (BSM), Saint Pedro Poveda College, De La Salle University Manila Integrated School (DLSU-M IS), GCF International Christian School, and Homeschool Global were the delegates and correspondents of the 1st LIFEMUN conference.
Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of United Nations conferences where students roleplay as delegates, actively engaging in discussions towards solving real global problems, or correspondents of specific news agencies, writing on the transpired events in real-time.
