Zion appeared to be chomping Olive, but they nearly choked after a mid-fourth-quarter push.
Style Tang hit a clutch shot to bring Zion back up with nine seconds left on the clock, ending a 21-0 run by the Olive Garden.
“It was all right; I just shot it and hoped it went in," Tang said about his game-winner.
Zion took charge for the second half of the game, leading by as many as 20 points at the start of the fourth quarter.
As they stormed into the fourth quarter, Olive seemed to inhale their best oil products, tallying six steals to go with their historic streak.
Karl Yue led the charge, scoring 14 of his 23 points in the final quarter and hitting two clutch free throws to give Olive the lead.
Jorge Ong of batch Zion had this to say about the comeback: “I felt helpless as the entire batch watched our lead slowly disappear. We were discouraged by the turn of events and felt powerless because it felt like we couldn't do anything about it.”
However, Olive’s porous defense the whole game struck back as Tang hit the game-winning shot with 9 seconds left on the clock.
“Our team spirit was gradually declining, but thanks to the efforts of the whole team, we were able to make it a very close game, which got everyone hyped. Overall, we could have done better, but this was already a very good game for us, and we hope to do much better in our succeeding games," Olive’s Jack Cheng commented on their performance.
It was a balanced game for Gen Z, ending the game with multiple players in double digits.
The crowd seemed just as thrilled during this bout as the players themselves, electrifying the gymnasium with cheers.
It truly was an exhilarating kickoff to MGCNL’s 19th Ichtus Intramural Games, with this match serving as just a preview of what’s to come!
