Social interaction — some believe that achieving this is impossible in quarantine due to, well, being confined at home; the only people who you probably have physical contact with are your family members, and as much as you love spending time with them, you also want to meet new people or bond with your friends outside. Isolation may lead to mental health issues, so instead of letting despair swallow your every essence, continue reading for five tips on how to get social interaction during this quarantine.
1. Who said connections have to be made in person-to-person interaction?
With the power of the Internet, you can make connections anytime and anywhere! Try to interact with one another. Sometimes, it is easier to chat online and not face-to-face, and it can relieve some social anxiety stimulated due to the pressure of meeting up outside.
2. Kindness is always appreciated!
Imagine yourself going to the grocery store to buy some essentials when you realize, “Hey! I can help my neighbor out by buying their groceries.” You ask them what they need, and voilà! Not only have you helped your neighbor, but you’ve also prevented the possibility of your neighbor from spreading or contracting the virus. Of course, you must remember that you are risking your health, so always observe the necessary safety measures and guidelines!
3. Bond with other people!
Activities such as playing video games and having online devotion can help ease your need to interact with other people—plus, you’ll be having fun too! Reach out to the elderly and give them some of your time for them to experience joy despite being online. Spread the word of the Bible to your relatives. To be frank, you can do anything to bond with others, but remember to do tasks to please and bring glory to God.
4. Find a community with the same interests as you!
Connect with a trustworthy online community and try to make friends out of them. Interacting with new communities is exciting and can make anyone push their social constriction further. But remember that they are still strangers; do not spill any private information and keep a privacy boundary whenever you talk to them. Taking this security matter into consideration, make sure your parents are aware of this online community that you are connecting with.
5. Catch up with an old friend or make a new friend!
This is somehow connected with the previous tip because you can make a new friend by chatting online. The Internet is a beautiful yet dangerous place, so remember to have privacy awareness whenever you talk with strangers. Lastly, catching up with your old friends may be awkward and a little challenging at first, but by reminiscing about your past good times, it could break the ice and pave the way to making new good moments with each other.
Through these five tips, I hope that I was able to spark some ideas and help you in whatever situation you are in right now. Of course, these are just tips. Feel free to do whatever works best for you!
