MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) student Rickson Caleb Y. Tan has qualified to be the Philippine representative for the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), to be held from July 6 to 16 at Oslo, Norway.
Tan, an incoming Grade 12 STEM student, is the second student from MGCNLCA to participate in the IMO following the stint of its alumnus, Farrell Eldrian Wu, in 2016.
According to its website, the IMO is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents.
